Home Energy Audits/Assessments

Energy audits are performed to help you reduce energy consumption with relatively simple changes. We will conduct an on-site examination of your home and its energy-related equipment to identify low-cost energy-saving options that you can use right away.

Professional energy audits are similar to home energy ratings but don’t usually include modeling the home with the available computer tools. The audit may include the use of an infrared camera to perform thermography to investigate specific home energy use issues. The results of the audit are presented in a summary report that is easy for the home owner to use in implementing suggested energy saving enhancements.

Preparing for an Energy Audit

Before we visit your house:

Make a list of any existing problems such as condensation and uncomfortable or drafty rooms.
Have copies or a summary of the home's yearly energy bills. (Your utility can get these for you.)
If you have a woodburning stove, make sure that the fire is out and the ashes are cool.
If you have a fireplace, we will have to place wet newspapers over the ashes to prevent their movement during blower door testing.

We will interview you regarding key features of your energy usage and comfort level. Your answers may help uncover some simple ways to reduce your household's energy consumption. Make sure that you are available to ask questions and to walk through your home with the auditor as he works.
